DanczowskaKaja Danczowska started taking violin lessons at the age of seven. From the eighth year of her life, she learned with Eugenia Umińska, an outstanding interpreter of Karol Szymanowski’s works, who later also became her teacher at the State Higher School of Music in Cracow. In 1972 she graduated with an honours degree. In the same year, she completed a two-year cycle of master classes in Moscow Conservatory with David Oistrakh; two years later, she took part in Ruggiero Ricci’s master classes organised by the Canadian government.

Kaja Danczowska is the winner of numerous national and international competitions, incl. 1stprize in the National Violin Competition in Wrocław (1959); 3rd prize in the 5th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań (1969); 2nd prize in the Alberto Curci Violin Competition in Naples (1969); 2nd prize in the Competition for Musical Performances in Geneva (1970); 3rd prize in the International Radio Competition in Munich (1975); Silver Medal in the International Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Music Competition in Brussels (1976).

From the age of ten, she has performed as a soloist throughout the world. She has played, among others, with Krystian Zimerman (with whom she recorded sonatas by C. Franck and W. A. Mozart as well as K. Szymanowski’s Myths), Heinz Holliger, Gidon Kremer, Jan Krenz, Mischa Maisky, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Ivan Monighetti, Krzysztof Penderecki, Yuri Simonov, Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Tadeusz Strugała, Witold Rowicki and Antoni Wit.

As a versatile artist, Kaja Danczowska has performed works from all historical periods. Musical critics praise her technical accuracy, clear sound, and emotional involvement in the interpretation of the musical work. She has recorded for well known record companies as well as radio archives (more than 400
recordings, mostly for the Polish Radio and RIAS).

Kaja Danczowska has served on the jury of numerous competitions in Poland and abroad, e.g. in Poznań (1986), Tokyo (1986), Munich (1992, 1998), New York (1999) and Odense (2000). Since 1972, she has taught a violin class in the Music Academy in Cracow; in 1997, she obtained the state title of full professor. As a highly regarded teacher and tutor, she has received numerous awards, incl. the Gold Medal “Of Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis” for the 50th anniversary of her artistic work in 2006.
