Competition format

Eurovision Young Musicians had a new competition format in 2016. In a change from previous years, there were no pre-rounds or semifinals, all 11 participants competed in the Grand Final.

Grand final

This year’s grand final took place on Saturday 3 September, live from Cologne, Germany. Poland won the 2016 competition with the Czech Republic and Austria finishing second and their respectively.

Each of the 11 participants performed a piece of up to six minutes and thirty seconds in length, which was judged by a five-person professional jury. Jurors commented on the performances after each participant had finished their piece, adding to the interaction during the show.

After all of the performances, the jury awarded points to each participant, with the total scores being used to decide the winner. Prizes were awarded to the first, second, and third placed participants.
