Malta takes part in the competition for the second time this year, having debuted in 2014. Representing the Mediterranean island back then was Kurt Aquillina. Now aged 21, what has Kurt been up to since taking part? We found out!

"Taking part in Eurovision Young Musicians helped me a lot in various aspects in my music career. First of all, performing with an Orchestra, live in front of those people and those watching on tv, was a huge challenge," says Kurt of his 2014 experience. "I met lots of good people as well, most of them I still talk to regularly today. Also playing with a full orchestra for the first time, made me break the ice and get into the professional music scene."

Despite being a small island, Malta has a very busy and lively music scene - something that Kurt has got on to since taking part. "I've done lot's of stuff since 2014. I composed a lot of music: all of the genres, from Rock to Pop, Jazz to Orchestral and now even Retro Synthwave with my Duo group K A R R," he tells us. "I also had a number of gigs and concerts as well. I was very close to going to study in Hollywood Los Angeles as well, but had to cancel all of my plans due to personal reasons."

While Kurt is still in contact with most of the participants from Cologne, he became good friend with a fellow guitar player during the competition. "I am planning to visit my great friend from Greece, Vassillis. He's a very great guitar player and musician. I really need to start saving money to visit all of the participants again!" he revealed.

And finally, what s Kurt's advice to this year's participants? "My advice to this year's contestants is that they be themselves. Prepare themselves in every possible way, socially, musically and spiritually. And most of all, Have fun! It will be a once in a lifetime experience! Live It!"
