Hungary made its debut in Eurovision Young Musicians in 1994, and finished third in the last competition held in 2014, achieving its best ever placing. This year 18 year old violinist Roland Attila Jakab will fly the flag for Hungary in Cologne.

Roland was born in August 1998 in Targu Mures, a town in Romania with a large Hungarian-speaking population. He comes from a musical family; his father is also a violinist and he now uses his violin to play. "It’s been mine for five years now. This violin is my life, I grew up with this instrument”, he says.

Roland has been participating in regional competitions for over a decade. Passionate about music, he also has ambitions to travel for his craft. "I would like to visit Vienna one day to pay honour to the great composers buried in the famous cemetery". He lists the violin concertos of Tchaikovsky and Sibelius as among his favourite compositions along with Bartók's Rhapsody No. 1 and Pablo de Sarasate's works. "My dream is to perform with Maxim Vengerov or with Leonidas Kavakos in Vienna" he says.

Eurovision Young Musicians marks an exciting international debut for the young musician. "My best experiences are the participation in the Hungarian national talent show Virtuoso and to be awarded a special prize - to represent Hungary at the Eurovision Young Musicians competition". You can find out more about Roland on his participant profile.
