Young pianist Dmitry Ishkhanov will represent Malta in Cologne
Valletta, Malta -

Malta debuted in Eurovision Young Musicians in 2014 returns to the competition in Cologne this year. Following an open call for candidates, 11 year old pianist Dmitry Ishkhanov has been chosen by public broadcaster PBS to represent Malta in 2016.

Dmitry was born in Moscow, Russia but moved to Malta with his family in 2008. He showed an interest in music at an early age and started singing and playing piano at the age of 4. He attended the Verdala International School in Malta and is also pursuing further music studies at the Cologne University of Music in Germany.

Dmitry has won numerous international prizes including the Young Pianists International Competition, Citta di Barletta, in Italy. He has performed as a soloist with various orchestras including the WDR Orchestra at the Philharmonic in Cologne.

Outside the world of classical music, he lists his favourite artists as Shakira, Beyonce and Muse. His most happiest experiences come from performing; The time when I found out that I will play with the WDR orchestra in Cologne and when I was told that I will play for Malta in Eurovision Young Musicians were my most joyous experiences". When asked about his ideal place to travel, his family bonds remain strong; "I would like to travel to Moscow to visit my relatives", he says.
