Francesco Stefanelli represented San Marino's in Eurovision Young Musicians in Cologne last year. It was the first time that San Marino had participated in the competition. Francesco, who plays the cello, performed the first movement of Shostakovich's concerto number one. We spoke to the young musician to find out what he's been doing since the competition in September.

  • What have you been up to since the competition?

After Eurovision Young Musicians I received two international awards, the First Prize at the Janigro Cello Competition in Croatia and the Special Prize for the youngest semi-finalist at the 1st Mazzacurati International Cello Competition.

  • What is your favourite memory from the week?

My favourite memories from the week are the rehearsals with WDR's orchestra and the emotion I experienced such a high-level orchestra on a such beautiful stage.

  • What advice would you give someone who is thinking about participating in 2018?

My advice is to enjoy this wonderful experience that will enable you to connect with different cultures and with young soloists who have a common love for music.
