VIENNA -

With the countdown to Eurovision Young Musicians now in full swing, it’s time to introduce you to another important person for this year’s competition. With the finalists all performing their pieces with the accompaniment of a live orchestra, the conductor will have a big role to play. Youngmusicians.tv is pleased to present this year’s conductor: Cornelius Meister.

Cornelius Meister, born in Hannover in 1980, was been appointed Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra in September 2010. In addition to his concerts at the Musikverein and Konzerthaus, as well as the Salzburg Festival, Cornelius Meister has put a special emphasis on developing education projects for children and young people and he has twice been awarded for the best German concert programme and for his educational work with children and young adults.

At the tender age of 21 he made his debut at the opera in Hamburg, aged 24 at the Bavarian opera house in Munich, aged 26 at the New National Theatre Tokyo and aged 29 at the San Francisco opera and the Deutsche Opera in Berlin. Cornelius Meister has been a guest conductor with renowned orchestras such as the Bamberg Symphony, NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, Munich Radio Orchestra, Basel Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Orchestre de l’Opera national de Paris and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. As pianist, he has given concerts in Europe and the USA and is prize-winner of the “Deutsche Musikwettbewerb” as well as the “Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival”. For the 2004 Bayreuther Festspiele, he assisted Pierre Boulez for the production of “Parsifal”.
