Ljubljana, Slovenia -

Slovenia has a proud history in Eurovision Young Musicians, with Eva Nina Kozmus having won the event in 2010. This year the hopes of the national rest on Urban Stanič.

Urban, who has been taking piano lessons since he was three years old, is 17 and comes from Ljubljana. He was one of the first participants chosen for Cologne, winning a national selection in January, and is looking forward to the competition next week. “I am very excited to perform and also to meet the participants who are surely great musicians”, he told us.

In the run up to Cologle, Urban has not only been practicing hard but has also had some excellent success. “I am practicing my program intensively so that I can work out every detail”, he says. “I also played the pre-round program at the Zlatko Grgošević piano competition in Zagreb on 15th May, where I was the absolute winner of the competition.” That’s some preparation!

Aside from being a first class pianist, Urban is also a champion chess player, having won the national championships in Slovenia in 2007. “I will definitely bring my chess set to Cologne, and look for a worthy opponent!” he added.
