In just over one week’s time, the delegations taking part in Eurovision Young Musicians will start arriving in Cologne. Making its debut in the competition this year is the island of Malta, and the honour of being their first ever representative has been given to Kurt Aquilina.

Malta has already taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest for a number of years, and back in November they won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, meaning they will host the event in November. However big that will be for the island, for now Kurt is completely focussed on his job in Cologne.

“I’m really excited for the event and looking forward to it” says Kurt, who has played the guitar since he was 11 years old. Now aged 18, the young man from Paola is busy getting ready for his performances in Cologne. “I'm practicing all day and night” he adds.

Kurt will have to make very sure of one thing before flying to Cologne – that he doesn’t forget his guitar! But will anything else important be going in his suitcase? “I will definitely pack my large headphones and my music player in my suitcase I can't stay a minute without them really!
