Sonoko Miriam Shimano Welde is representing Norway this year in Eurovision Young Musicians. Norway won the last Eurovision Young Musicians Contest in 2012 and Sonoko Miriam hopes to defend the title for Norway performing on Violin.

In the pre-round on Monday Sonoko Miriam performed one piece which was Ernest Chausson’s Poèm, op.25. In the final she will perform the 3rd Movement from Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor Op. 26 which will be a poignant performance as Bruch was a native of Cologne and is in fact commemorated on a statue on Cologne’s City Hall. Sonoko Miriam feels privileged to perform in Bruch’s home city and this history will add to the occasion.

We spoke to Sonoko Miriam after her pre-round performance and after her first rehearsal with the orchestra. In her interview Sonoko Miriam told us about her passion for music and her experiences in the contest so far.
