Cologne -

As the host country for Eurovision Young Musicians 2016, Germany's representative will have a little extra support when he performs on stage in Cologne of 3 September.

The honour of being the home favourite this year goes to Raul Maria Dignola. The 16-year old was chosen by a jury of music experts appointed by broadcaster WDR from a large number of applicants: Dr. Christoph Stahl, Siegwald Bütow, Werner Wittersheim, Wibke Gerking, Andrea Zschunke, and Lothar Mattner. Playing the horn, he will be the first participant to do so in the competition since 1988!

"I still can’t believe that I was chosen," said the youngster from Dortmund. "I’m really proud to represent Germany in the contest and I am very excited about that."

Born in Lago Maggiore in North Italy, Raul moved to Germany aged six where he has enjoyed much success as a musician during his childhood - going on to study the French horn at the “Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover” from 2012 till 2015 and graduating with top marks.
