Bonn, Germany -

Yesterday our Young Musicians took a break from their intense rehearsing to let their hair down and experience some of the culture North Rhine-Westphalia has to offer.

Being the Young Musicians Contest we had to take our performers to a place to inspire them and what better a place than the birth place of Beethoven, Bonn. Our Young Musicians wen to the Beethoven Haus where they were given a special tour around the house in which the great Classical composer grew up with a variety of artefacts including scores, instruments and portraits of people connected with the maestro’s work. The group all felt inspired by being in the birthplace of a composer’s whose work all have played and connected with many a time and someone who had such a profound effect on music.

After a short lunch break the group were then taken to Bonn’s Haus der Geschichte to learn about the extraordinary journey Germany has taken from a post-war collapsing nation to the European economic powerhouse it is today. The group were taken round by Martin, a guide from the museum, who walked our contestants through a historical journey filled with a variety of artefacts including copies of the surrender 1945 surrender treaty, to the Nobel prize awarded to willy brand to a piece of lunar rock taken from the first moon landing. The young musicians felt quite educated by the experience learning new things about Germany’s development in the second half of the twentieth century.

Finally our musicians went to the OMS Beach Club just outside of Koln to have a barbecue buffet dinner alongside some fun and games despite the terrible weather with games of beach volleyball, table tennis, kubb and more.

We hope our Young Musicians have had a good chance to socialise and take a break from their hard work. We would like to thank the government of North Rhine-Westphalia.
